Jerry Tarkanian and his band of Rebels dismantled Duke 103-73 in the National Championship. UNLV was loaded with talent in 1990 with Anderson Hunt, Larry Johnson, Greg Anthony and Stacey Augmon. The Rebels stormed through the tournament en route to the schools first national title.
The 1990 UNLV Runnin' Rebels brought things to college basketball that had never been seen before. Black sneakers, baggy shorts, high flying highlights, team huddles on the floor. UNLV would inspire many of the great teams to follow them in college basketball in terms of style of play as well as their impact in pop culture.
The star of that team remains Tark.
"It takes a different type of coach to coach the team we had. Coach K at Duke can't coach the team we had. The type of young black males we had on our team were real boastful, they were real bold and they needed someone who was going to show them some love."
